Carroburg Campaign Sessions 22:
Everything started so simply, with Abigail asked to collect a couple of people to investigate the possible disappearance of a Morr circuit priest. His route was Dadizele through to Schattenlas. At the same time, this was a courtesy visit to Anvil (also part of his domain), and where he would probably base himself, since it is a Mórr enclave.
The area is rather a complex political geography. There are two enclaves, one is Mórr and the other Sigmarite, both of little worth. And river borders, which is Furdienst overspill, and therefore Imperial by some ancient charter. Again worthless. Anvil is Morrite land. Schlag is the Sigmar land, and had some problem with trespassers/ travellers. The local steward wasn’t up to it, was replaced by the Morr enclave steward, Osborne Ogilvy, "who is doing a fine job".
The nearest village is Nachterwitz, basically a hamlet (H2) at which Abigail was required to preside over a burial. This was concerning since she did not know what to do; but she was assured that a proper burial would be carried out later by the circuit priest. The dead man had been found near the river, badly torn apart. You deduced rather well that the land was drying out and that large fen worms were moving. One of these must have got him. But what was causing the land to dry out?
Arriving in Anvil, this was all rather forgotten Abigail, without any apparent cause, harangued the halfling steward, expelled his two friends, and then sacked him. Whilst it did transpire that Ogilvy was behind the drying up since he was involved in shady (but legal – probably) land speculation and water rights issues, none of this was known prior to Abigail’s expulsion and a fight followed. This resulted in Abigail’s death. Ironic, huh?! Karelia and Johannes fled, and both eventually made it back to Carroburg, although Kareila was lost in the forest for three days.
By the time we had recovered, it was time for the Festival of the Fineries der Schwimmund on the 22nd Vorgeheim. This was a masque ball, taking place on a number of boats on the river and docks. Karelia went as escort to her employer, Johannes as Imperial Garrison captain. There the two met with someone called Maggie, who really is going to have to change her name....
Murder was done, and mayhem followed and our heroes found themselves too late. During a prize hunt, you found two dead bodies, stripped of their gowns and masques. The hunt was on. You (eventually) discovered their names and outfits, only to find that they had swapped them with other guests. You also found out that a female elf was behind this. The target turned out to be Theodisius Clickingheels, who was found brutally murdered, revenge for his part in the destruction of Alfar Levantine.
We restart on the morning of the 23rd.
