Carroburg Campaign Sessions 21:
You dealt with a number of domestic issues, and came up against a deepening political situation. It seems that the reactionary elements have gained power and are enforcing very strong Guildic strictures. This has led to unemployment and more troublesome rumblings, but personally the only effect has been that you needed to obtain a whole range of permits.
You briefly considered following up the Trostler device on the harpy, but decided against it. Beatrix did confirm that they employ Siegfried Sassoon, a minstrel who has a reputation for being a tattooist, too.
Johannes found himself under pressure from the Marienburg enclave, in the form of Representative Ronald van der Walk, in the city to protect them from the Carroburg authorities. He promised to do so with all the resources at his disposal. Unfortunately, he was dismayed to discover that none of his men were fit for duty, and so was unable to help. The next day, the City seized all the assets within the enclave for ‘reparations’.
The party was accosted by an authorised patrol of the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, who took umbrage at Agneta/ Karelia’s fine and nicely fitting clothing. Words were said, and certain party members found themselves (temporarily) incarcerated.
Pieter obtained work, below his station, but it pays, restoring some old property, burnt in the riots. One of these was Old Man Gunther Rhedden’s. He and his family seem to have disappeared, and Pieter was moved to investigate when someone was in his house. All seems above board, since the transfer of tenant was notarised. However, the notary was Friederich Blucher, a member of the Guild of Blacksmiths and who normally works in very different areas. Not only did he not want to see you, but at the forge he works out of, you were made very unwelcome. When you noticed that these people had tattoos with Old Faith sigils, and then recalled that the house leads to the tunnels under the city, you become certain that ‘something’ was ‘up’.
You decided to try and enter the tunnel system again, although arranged for Agneta’s new employer to use some of his labourers to dig open the closed area in the now-disused fighting pit. Another fight took place, and another defeat ensued. However, three ‘skaven’, two men and two giant rats were slain too.
We restart on the evening of the 9th Vorgeheim with Pieter and Aldhelm both very badly wounded, and needing a week to recover. Johannes is limping back to the garrison, and the rest are returning home.
