Carroburg Campaign Session 06

A number of things flow from the battle with the ‘outlaws’.

A meeting is arranged between the Felsenheim and Middenheim enclave authorities. Present will be both leaderships. These are as follows:

Installed in his fortified manor house, the only completed building, is Ritter Volkrad von Nicramszeck, Magistrate, Lord Justice, Grand Duke’s Coroner and Praetor. You know the others: Burggraf Albrecht von Kroppen (Woodworkers Guild); Burggraf Brigund von Haiger (Goldsmiths Guild); Carl Pulsach (Ulric); Tylo Gozwin (Morr).

The Middenheim contingent is led by Prinz Torsten von Dagwurst-Carron-Snobbislakt. He is accompanied by Ritter Leticia von Baldurich, who looks very useful, and you also recognise Maurice de Papin (from Carolhof).

You think that you have managed to prevent an assassination attempt on the Prinz by Sabritz, and tell von Kroppen pretty much all of the story. You tell Holzbeck everything, having helped him bury the dead. His trust is undermined, unfortunately, by Agneta’s questions on the nature of magic and how necromancy might not always be a bad thing. Johann chips in with his views that the dead don’t really need to be buried properly, ‘do they Guv?’

The burial turns out to be harder than anticipated, since the bodies have gone. You follow the dragging marks, with absolutely no attempt at secrecy, to a small camp of beastmen, who you slay. On dealing with these dead too, you find a boot print and deduce that someone who wears boots and is of human gait was here with these creatures.

One last thing about the battle. Gunther Holsten, a senior scout, captured a dying escapee and interrogated him. He was wearing a "DD" charm. The outlaw admitted it stood for Daughters of Drakwald, a Middenheim-sponsored terrorist group intending to prevent the completion of Felsenheim and expand Middenheim enclave territory. They were also moving the markers.

After the meeting, at which you gave your report, Gozwin is seen storming off. He certainly reacted badly to your report of ghouls. Seen later, he looks a broken man.

Scouts return with two more ‘ghouls’, or "Beastmen" caught despoiling a barrow. They are left hanging from makeshift wooden cages, downwind of all animals in camp. From clues dropped, you believe that these were the two creatures that you conversed with.

The meeting of the leaders is concluded. Surprisingly, it appears that Otmar Holzbeck is a Middenheim noble, though he has given up his privileges. Since he swears that the attack was carried out in the belief that the camp was in Middenland, and that the markers appeared to prove this. He was not aware of deliberate tampering and it was not Middenland policy, to his knowledge. It is agreed that a Middenheim - Middenland commission will investigate the whole issue, including that of the attacks on the barrows. Papers are drawn up, one each to Middenland and Carroburg. Messengers are needed!

The provisional treaty is to be delivered to the Chancellor in Carroburg. Other letters are added:
Holzbeck to Cult of Morr
Burggraf von Kroppen to the Woodworkers Guildmaster
Carl Pulsach to Cult of Ulric

After some delays you set off. You know what is to happen, and you are indeed attacked, close to Carolhof. The fighting is very confused. Johann fights heroically. Hans does absolutely nothing. Others do bits, yet others run off. Somehow you all make it into Carolhof, where you are immediately imprisoned. It seems that a group of ‘bandits’ have taken over the village. They tell you to mind your own business, and they won’t harm you. They don’t tamper with your correspondence and they do leave after a day. It appears that they are attacking one of the fortified manor houses. You do notice that one has failed to remove a device, that of Freiherr Margritte von Prokkt-Snobbislakt.

You arrive back safely, delivering the various papers. You are helped (again) by Councillor Marcuse, who happens along, to see the Chancellor’s Secretary, Horst Sculrusch. This saves you an interminable wait.

We restart on the morning of 22nd Pflugzeit - a NEW MOON (Mannslieb).
