TimCon IV: Background
The idea behind the TimCon mini-conventions was to run games for WFRP players by WFRP players. We held the first TimCon event on the 10th April 2004,
and it was so successful that we repeated it. Now we have TimCon IV, which is running as a satellite of the club’s anniversary
Shadow Con convention.
The formula is simply a bunch of WFRP mates meeting up to play and talk WFRP. After Dragonmeet 2003 (and GenCon, and DM 2002...), a number of us who had met up, played, gone down the pub etc remarked how silly it was that we waited for a Con to meet up and spend about £7 to get in just for the privilege of talking to each other and playing the games that we wrote. With this in mind, I began thinking of the possibility of running a 'meet-up' cum Con for a group of WFRP friends, run at a smaller venue with a fee only as necessary to cover hire costs. We have now had three conventions, each with purpose-written games run for the convention. We have also produced a fanzine for attendees with various WFRP articles and other material in.
You can click here to see what TimCon 01 looked like, and here for TimCon II details, and here for TimConIII stuff.
TimCon IV: Details
TimCon IV will take place on Sunday 4th September 2005. It is being run as a part of the
Shadow Con activities, so click here to find out how to book and
pay.
TimCon IV Games
The following games will run on the day. I will keep this page up-to-date, but use the main
Shadow Con page to book your space.
Planet of Chaos (AM)
Run by Clive Oldfield
What's the blue wood-panelled hut doing on Hochstrasse? It wasn't there yesterday. Who's the mysterious stranger walking round town with the
witch-hunter's hat and long, colourful scarf? Who's the warrior woman with him, an Amazon princess from Lustria? Do the PCs need to save the world again? It's
about time.
Get Slaughtered (AM)
Run by Robert Rees
Jack Slaughter is a beer smuggler for the McGuiness clan. So was his brother but now Frankie Slaughter has allegedly drowned having driven his cart into the
river while "under the influence". Jack doesn't believe a word of it and has to uncover the truth no matter what the cost.
Who was Hans Kotter of Ensendorf? (PM)
Run by John Foody
That is the question you asked yourself when you opened the letter from
Altdorf. You have been summoned to the reading of his will
but are certain that you never meet the man. Still, here you are and you don't
like the lawyer one little bit.
Salty Tears (PM)
Run by Tim Eccles
Salzbrunnen. Never even heard of the place. But apparently, it’s a salt
spring. A brine run. And salt means money. And money means trouble. At least
whenever you seem to be around. Chancellor Kellermeister, the new de facto civil
authority in Carroberg, is unhappy with the paltry 100GCs a year they pay for
the monopoly. The local burghers, who own shares, are complaining about the lack
of policing they get for their taxes. And the local church has called in about a
‘minor problem’. You’re starting to get that feeling again….
Please check which version of the rules the GMs will be using by clicking here.
TimCon IV Schedule and Players
You can find out about when games are running, and how full they are on the main
Shadow Con site here.
TimCon IV Fanzine - The Man That Corrupted Bergsburg
The Man That Corrupted Bergsburg, is a programme for the day, together with interesting articles about WFRP, Warhammer and roleplaying
generally, and various editorialising by myself (Tim Eccles). Please note that in order to comply with Games Workshop's IP policy this fanzine is not for sale
and is given away free to TimCon IV attendees only. You can check out previous fanzines on my
WFRP page.
Other Fanzines
As a further inducement, I’ll sell (by prior arrangement) copies of any of my fanzines to TimCon IV attendees.
Email me to agree details here. I will hold
this offer open until 15th August 2005. I can’t accept requests after this as I need time to print them up. We will also be running a small fanzine table,
where you will be able to buy a variety of UK fanzines. This will include Warpstone and Carnel, and including any last copies of the unpublished Tetsubo
Japanese supplement that was dropped by GW.
TimCon IV: After Con Events
Obviously there will be time after the event for socialising etc. Last time we had a few drinks and went out for a meal til late. This time, we will have a
host of other gamers to mingle with too!
TimCon IV: Before Con Events - SHADOW CON
Why not make a weekend of it, and come along on Saturday? You can play any one of a number of games, including Cursed Empires as recently reviewed in
Warpstone magazine (or should that be fanzine!). Check it all out
here.
Warhammer Versions
Because they are cool dudes, Clive Oldfield and John Foody will be using the new second edition WFRP rules. Though, given Clive's propensity to tinker
we might not notice. Since Tim Eccles is an old reactionary at heart, he will be using the old first edition rules (though he prefers the label 'classic WFRP').
Robert Rees will, as usual, prove why he writes fanzines on the nature of RPGs and will use d6 Fantasy set in the WFRP Warhammer World
TimCon IV: Legal Bits
These are the same as the Shadow Con legal stuff, but in case Black Industries are reading:
The centre is managed and operated by the London Borough of Ealing and so has all of the relevant liability insurance, fire certification etc and is set up in accordance with health and safety etc legislation. You can be assured that the site is safe and secure, and well managed. Please note that attendance is for 18+ years only and entirely at your own risk.
Final legal bit: this is an unofficial convention. All trademarks and games are run without permission of Black Industries, Games Workshop and Green Ronin. This convention continues a long tradition of fan writing for role-playing products, and in no way challenges ownership of any and all trademark and copyright ownership. Warhammer FRP, its mechanics and terms are owned by Games Workshop Ltd. All adventures are entirely fictional and pieces of fantasy fiction. Any similarities to real persons, living or dead, are entirely coincidental. All relevant trademarks and copyrights are used without permission and in no way meant to challenge ownership to them by Games Workshop. TimCon IV fully recognises said copyright and trademark ownership with full acknowledgement of the intellectual ownership and legal copyright ownership of that material. This is simply a convention run by fans for other fans. The fanzine is a free give-away and is not being sold.
