The Barrow of the Forgotten King
Run by
Nick Ball
This Game is currently ON HOLD !!
Well it has been running for well over a year now but my campaign has come to an end .... a bad end. The players lost and have unleashed an apocalyptic force into the world .... ooops. So that means, until I write the sequel that is, that the Barrow is over and that marks campaign starts in my next slot ... which is now marks slot. I hope everyone enjoyed that game.
I have had the players write some Eulogy's for their dead characters, of which there where many, and the ones I have had so far are below:
Player Tom (the English one)
Character - Jesset (aka Lord Jesset, aka DM fodder):
There are many that have failed to recognise greatness in people, but these people have especially passed over the greatness that was the honourable Lord Jeset. A man of simple tastes, and supporter of the arts, he went out into the world to spread his belief in honour and justice. Having joined with a fellow band of adventurers, he set off into the world. Cheering his fellows on into the darkness, brave Lord Jeset help fight back the darkness that was this forgotten king. Vowing to make sure that his evil would never rise, he would have been a broken man having known that those he travelled with failed in their task. Never one to back from a fight, forever despised for his greatness from his party, he sacrificed his life so that they might live. Many an eye now is moistened with his passing.
Character - Thoss:
Excerpt from the book of Thoss, as transcribed by All His Merry Men.
...For within the darkness, a cry was heard, a babies cry... ...The great spires of the city towered majestically over the young sorcerer... …For their arrogance, their greed, their need to keep the power they stole, a portal to the darkness was opened... …The fires burned the fabled tavern to the ground, nothing could survive within the heat… …There is nothing but darkness and pain under the world, and thus only the strong survive... ...Thoss's powers shone like a beacon within the darkness... ...And thus here endth the first chapter, the time before the return...
...With the elf and half orc, reality was stabilized.. . ...With luck and the flux of chaos was a dwarf found with knowledge of a way to the surface... ...With a rending attack did the demon hydra try to prevent Thoss from spreading his knowledge... …For even inanimate objects were caused to arise to prevent Thoss from spreading his knowledge to the world... …Joined by the man-bird and the oppressor, they traveled to the castle... ...These snake creatures fled in terror at the coming of Thoss, becoming weaker by his word...
...As they entered the castle, the treacherous snake creatures tried to snuff the flame out, but the power of All His Merry Men over came the creatures to protect his master... …A low, a skeleton of a monstrous beast appeared, yet Thoss was not scared for he new his comrades from the fabled tavern would stand by his side... ....Though reality tried to prevent Thoss from trying to destroy this heathen king, Thoss knew it was his sacred duty to face him...
...The battle was great, but the bloated creature was now more, slain by Thoss's own power... …Reality could not come to terms with this power, and thus conspired to remove Thoss from reality... ...The creature awoke and slew the great Thoss. Though it pained me to leave my master, the world needs to know of this man, and his quest to bring knowledge and protect the world. Now go my reader, and prepare for the war that is taking place between what reality wants and what reality needs.
Here endth the book of Thoss.

Survived the entire game despite being caught in a disintegration trap, plummeting 200 foot down a hole (well died but was raised) and is the sole surviving char from the original party. Well done Oscar.
A big thanks to all the players that made my first DMing so fun and led a pre-written campaign in a completely wrong direction leading to what is shaping up to be an interesting first writing a campaign experience.
The Barrow of the Forgotten King will return with .......
The Kingdom of the Risen King!
Hope to see you there, Nick

Introduction: [top]
The graveyard of Kingsholm has been around for centuries, some of the locals think it pre-dates Kingsholm. The graveyard and the mausoleum are considered a place
of pride for the community and the local guards, also known as sentinels, ensure that the graveyard remains safe. The most notable feature in the graveyard is
the statue of a long forgotten King, few of the common folk will venture to the statue but they have no fear of the rest of the graveyard.

Two days ago a family of mourners, Desiree and Morgan Yurling and their daughter Tyra, entered the graveyard and didn’t return. A pair of sentinels where dispatched to investigate but they two have disappeared. The town folk now look to you to discover what has happened.
The Story So Far (aka what the players have already done):
[top]
After accepting the quest the party have discovered that there is a priest of Olidammara based on top of Hergon Hilltopple.
The party entered the graveyard and walked towards the graveyard. As they reached the Mausoleum they were attacked by 3 wolf like creatures, which were quickly dispatched.
Upon entering the Mausoleum they awoke 2 Zombies and where attacked by three skeletal archers and, just, managed to defeat them thanks, mostly, to Broctor’s turn undead ability. While searching the first room in the mausoleum they discovered Tyra along. She has told the players that her parents had been dragged away.
As the party search further through the mausoleum they discovered a door with the following picture on.........

After opening the door they discovered a room with multiple symbols of the floor. What does this picture mean, what does the room hold for our players and what will our players do, we will have to wait till next game to find out.
Session 2 [top]
Soon the party was joined by El-Tas another wandering adventure who the town’s people had hired to help the party. The symbols on the floor where a puzzle to
open a trap door deeper in to the barrow via a ladder. As the party got off of the ladder the found themselves in a landing leading to a narrow corridor
spiralling down to another landing where they where attacked by 2 skeletal wolves, which they easily destroyed. The small landing lead down into another larger
landing where and Ogre Zombie attacked the party but was forced back by Oskar allowing the rest of the party to surround and kill the zombie. Appon defeating
this hidous beast the party continued through the one exit to find a narrow room with a rope bridge over a small lake, no wider than the room. Jesset was the
first to cross the bridge, which he did with no difficulty then Mylo went to cross and fell from the bridge and was attacked by and Ooze hiding in the water,
which the party succusfully destroyed, with aid of a summoned octopus.
When the party eventually Got to the opposite side of the rope bridge, after El-Tas had destroyed it the players found 2 doors one to the south and one to the north west. Electing to exsplore the southern door first the party entered and where instantly attacked by a Chocker. It first attacked missed El-Tas, it’s chosen victim, as it shot our it’s arm for it’s second strike Oskar swung his might axe and severed the foul abominations arm killing it in on stock. The Chocker had been guarding a rope ladder to surface which brave El-Tas “volunteered” to investigate for the party. The ladder was 200ft tall and as El-Tas was stepping out of the hole he was attacked by a brutal hairless, hound-like creature which killed him in a single bite. Thankfully Milo heard El-Tas’s hideous death with his eleven ears and, with the aid of Oskar, climbed the ladder to rescue El-Tas. As the 2 left the hole they sound the mangled remains of El-Tas and they too were attacked by the hound. Mylo summed a wolf to hold the beast at by whilst Oskar and he could through El-Tas’s body down the hole, little knowing that El-Tas was still alive and would wake seconds before hitting the floor. Whilst the hound like creature was engaged to in its battle with the wolf Oskar and Mylo started to carefully climb back down the rope ladder, to safety. Unfortunately for them the Beast was able to spit a horrific acid which hit both of them killing them in an instant. Jessest and Brocktor, seeing the corpses of their companions, carried them back to Kingsholm where the local cleric was able to restore them to life. They then re-entered the Barrow this time electing to ignore the southern room, where they had met such a messing and painful end and instead elected to go through the door to the North West. As they entered the room initiatives are rolled what creature/s will attack them, will it be as devastating as the hound like creature or will it be nothing more than a very cross duck? Only time (or a copy of the DM’s campaign notes) will reveal the answer.
Jesset’s Tail [top]
Sit close my fellows, this is a story of daring and death. My story begins with a brave party of travelers having wandered far and wide in their life times,
coming upon the small town of Kingsholm. These travelers you ask? Why my young friend, these would be Milusepherath, the elven magician of wonder, master of the
arcane lights; Broctor Holberhek the dwarven cleric of Pelor, entrusted with divine knowledge, at the cost of his humor; Oskar Obsidian Ammonite the Dwarf, slayer
of the Demonic Duck of Duckford; and finally Jeset, lord of the Tale.
Now these wondrous traveler were beset by the woes of the poor village, who tale of sadness was of a young family who had failed to return from the local graveyard. Now you might be thinking that this graveyard was full of evil creatures, but yet this was a haven of peace for both the living and the dead. Now these kind and caring fellows could not let these poor people go in fear, and thus they traveled to the local cleric to seek guidance and blessing. This cleric was a strange man who knew the value of a word and coin, though he was a cleric, so he was still a bit muddled. He did help with guidance and thus the party did travel to this graveyard, where they did find the gates wide open though they were locked the night before. This auspicious omen did not faze these brave fellows, and thus they traveled on into the land on the dead.
Carefully did our hero's enter this land of peaceful slumber yet as they reached their destination, they were beset by wolves. Now these creatures were fast, and poor Jeset was wounded, and it fell to the powerful Milusepherath to put these creatures to sleep. Thus these creatures were slain, but our poor travelers were beset by another grim creature, a wolf like thing that slashed at the poor adventurers. Great were the blows rained down upon the creature by Oskar and blistering was the fire called down by Milusepherath, until this creature did pass away. Broctor called down divine aid upon the wounded and thus the brave and noble travelers could continue with their quest.
Now our adventurers were healed up, and came upon a mausoleum owned by the missing family. Down the grim passage the adventurers went into a laying out room for the dead. Corpses laid here were still, though as the brave Oskar ventured forth, two did rise and swipe at Oskar. The fight was grim and bloody, with more creatures entering the fray, creatures of white bone carrying bows of enchanted evil. Brokat did attempt to make these creature flee in terror, though being mean to poor Jeset seemed to have taken his powers away from him. In response, Oskar fell in pain, and wondrous Milusepherath started to glow. Where was the amazing Jeset you ask, well he was brave and commanding, leading the fight from the rear, though seeing his poor fellows in trouble, leaped to their defense. With brave determination at thwarting these creatures of evil, Oskar was able to stand once more , and swung at these monsters. With Pelor sensing the danger that these poor defenders of good were in, worked through Broktor and was able to destroy the evil skeletons that stood raining arrows in to our poor adventurers. With this release of power from Borkat, poor glowing Milo was startled and released his powers into the space above the monsters, thus wasting his energy. Jeset seeing his chance, stabbed deep into the rotting walking corpse in front of him, wounding it gravely.
Once the creatures were slain, the brave adventurers searched the room and found the poor young Tyra and thus the first part of the rescue had succeeded. The brave fellows had found that evil, mean tomb robbers had striped the tombs clean, leaving nothing for the poor dead souls in their after life. Young Tyra was taken back to town, and the villagers celebrated the success of the adventurers, though there was some ill felling that these poor souls should not heal their broken bodies but should carry on 'till death. Though we know that these brave adventurer's need to regain their strength before they could vanquish the forces of evil.
The restocked troupe of brave hero's, traveled back into the mausoleum to rescue the parents of poor Tyra. The adventures traveled deeper into the tomb, when as Jeset enters a room to search for the missing folk, he was set upon by four flying demons. Jeset fought bravely by himself, until he could fight no more and had to retreat to the party. Though the party waited for the demons to appear, they did not seam to leave the room, and it was deemed that the demons were trapped within the tomb. Do not worry my fellow drinkers, poor Jeset was not hurt by these demons, so drink up and listen close.
Near the room of demons, was a staircase leading downwards, to a room with demons painted on the door. Knowing that two innocent souls were in peril, the brave adventures though not of their own safety as they when through but of the parents of poor young Tyra. What was behind this door, well thats for another time, and now who is buying me a drink, eh?
