Summary 38

You manage to avoid a number of trolls lumbering in the region with only one slip. Some discussion takes place as to the meaning of this, and even as to whether to warn the Hill men (race over politics!). Eventually (after prompting) someone recalls that Prince Hayek mentioned that trolls had been driven south from something in the north. This caused you to worry over what might be so powerful. (Later when you return to the Ant'sai, you enquire of what they know. They tell you of the rise of a number of Chaos Marauder groups claiming that the 'god' Tuluk has returned.) Escape into the daylight and to the Ant'sai camp was not too difficult. You saw some Hill Men mining activities (and assorted slaves) and signs of something related to symbols of a fanged mouth or gaping maw. Goblinoids seemed the most likely in your experience (Whys'parr certainly reckoned it was not a human heraldic device), although Jakob seemed to think that it was an ogre symbol. How he knew this was rather open to doubt…. You thought that you found something related to this (a blocked off wall area) but trolls were in the environs and you elected to simply escape. A return was mooted?

Returning to Preslav, the Ant'sai were also preparing to trek northwards home again. You elected to concoct a cover story over the Sigrid and Lanz affair. Heidi initially objected, but demurred - in part as she recognised that she owed you her freedom. You reckon that all three owe you big time! Heidi is under instructions to keep an eye on Sigrid, a prospect she does not relish but has promised to do. Kara seems to be in some trouble at Preslav and now seems rather keener to hang around with you all.

You were paid, lauded and (unsurprisingly) offered a new task - a simple show the flag task at the village of Gorodec. A number of disappearances have been reported by the local circuit priest of Morr (he too), although now everything is reported as fine, except for the existence of a Chaos Monolith (a slate piled heaped with carcasses) responsible for blight surrounding the village. Simple - escort some engineers and pull it down and be nice to the villagers. The first you ultimately managed to do, only to find a hideous 'demon' held within it. This you have just slain. The latter you have not done so well, having upset the villagers with a number of questions and some attempts to abuse their hospitality. Both Kara and Morgan are worried about the village - the former as things seem "too good to be true" there and she has a fixation with kids and the line of the blight, the latter as it simply seems 'wrong'. Everyone else is disinterested - the engineers are packing up and limping home, to be joined by the rest of the party.

Points to Remember

Wolf lost armour to the troll, but there is also armour damage for the intact equipment and repairs will still be needed on the non-destroyed equipment.
