ShadowCon are happy to announce that Leo Marshall, the inventor of LeGardo is returning to ShadowCon and will be at demoing his game over the weekend.

LeCardo is a playing-card word game that works by adding words together to make compounds or other idiomatic matches such as housework, break-in, time off etc. It’s easy to pick up and play but be warned- it’s no pushover!

Whilst LeCardo doesn’t fall into the traditional spectrum of ‘hobby’ games, it nevertheless provides a fun diversion from longer games, and is not without strategic play.

We are pleased to be celebrating our fourth anniversary this year, having published in March 2007.

Come along and see a demo or, better still, challenge Leo Marshall, the inventor, to a game!

Each day will run from 9.00am to 8.00pm, with a morning and afternoon slot and an hour break for lunch. There will be a tuck shop on site selling 'convention standard' fare such as crisps, chocolate and soft drinks. There will be a BBQ on Saturday evening.

BBQ - Please be aware that you will need to pre-book for the BBQ on Saturday night, so that we know how many people to cater for.

Ticket prices are £3 per game and payable by Cash or Cheque. Payment in advance is appreciated.

To book your game(s) please contact the relevant person. All RPG games have to be pre-booked and your booking will be on a first come first served basis.

True Dirt [top]
GM: Rob Rees

I want him dead.
I want him brought to justice.
I want a drink.

A human child, her halfling servant and a motley bunch of dwarven bounty hunters are searching for a murderous half-wit in badlands overrun with cannibals, bandits and the creatures of chaos. Greta Daschund's father Georg was murdered by a Pitor Yanvich, a man who he had shown charity too. Pitor fled into the Badlands and the people of the town regard him as good as dead. His precociously talented daughter has tried in vain to get the men of the town to hunt down the murderer but for most crossing the river into the wild country is as good as any death sentence and it makes no sense to throw good lives after bad. Greta's luck has taken a change for the better though as Yanvich is a man with a past and most of it seems to have involved double-crossing dwarves. Not one but two groups of dwarven bounty hunters have entered town looking for Yanvich and if she can get them to work together she's got herself a posse.

System: WFRP 3e (but probably with simplified combat and cards)

The Company for the Exploration Of The Frozen North With A View To The Recovery Of Treasures Of The Ancients [top]
GM: Steven Hanlon

The above named company would like to announced to the Citizens of Altdorf that it has successfully gathered adequate Investment Capital from a small number of Noble Patrons of good character and sound judgement. An expedition will henceforth be departing within the week led by five Gentlemen Adventurers, each a master of the Esoteric Arts and Imperial Magics. The Company expects to face Considerable Hardship at the hands of the Monstrous Peoples, Unexplored Terrains and Inclement Weathers of the target location but expects to conquer all through Stout Heart, Pyrotechnic Skill and Considerable Experience of Similar Ventures. Expedition members welcome the Good Wishes of the Citizenry and the Blessings of the Gods.

A game of exploration of the dark places of the world in the company of wizards. Monsters, treasure and forbidden tomes to be expected.

Black Swans Are Bastards Too… [top]
GM: Gilles de Rais

Your patron, the Tilean banker Tolomei, is worried - A financial crisis is slowly but surely destroying the world as we know it. Peasants with pitchforks, who may occasionally riot and rebel against the aristocracy when things go bad, are now targeting bankers such as himself and blaming them for all the problems. And it is becoming truly unpleasant. Even the aristocrats, too happy to deflect popular anger, have now taken to inciting the stupid crowds against the money men... Of course, a few of them may do so in the hope that they won't have to pay their creditors. Treacherous bastards, the whole lot of them!

So Tolemei pulled you off your various bodyguarding duties and decided to sent you on his most ambitious scheme yet. Find out how this whole unholy mess started, exactly - And, more importantly, find another scapegoat for the crowds... Could one of these forbidden cults be blamed for all this? Sigmar, help us. For once we need those evil monsters and they don't seem to be around... Any idea? Because, let me tell you, Black Swans Are Bastards Too!

WFRP 1st edition rules.

One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing [top]
GM: Tim Eccles

Lord Hastalavistababee blinked. There was no mistake. Speaker Minezapint scurried forward and bowed low. He felt a great presence slowly awaken. Confused, disorientated, he sensed that it was still attuned to other realities. Fortunately, he remained Cool. Then there was a jolt and he felt, rather than heard: “The World Machine is aligned. A Dark Conspiracy begins. That which was lost must be retrieved.”

Minezapint examined the glyphs on the many pillars in the pyramid, occasionally sending off one of his attendant Skink scribes to cross-check a reference. Which one was the Dark Conspiracy? Was it the same as the Conspiracy of the Dark Ones? No, the inflections were definitely different. What he’d do for something like those books he’d studied, taken from the hairless apes that kept invading his lands. Ah, here it was. Oh, heck. Where in all the skinkspawn is Bretonnia…?

The game will use WFRP1st with figures/ floorplans (assuming that I get everything painted in time!)

Deeper and Deeper [top]
GM: Toby Pilling

Inching over the hill you scanned the route ahead; there was the entrance, the gash in the mountainside looking more like a vast doorway upon closer examination. For a moment your mind wandered, pondering again why you were here. Suddenly a harsh voice behind you drew your attention.

Quickly you jerked your head about, but after a split second of confusion recognised the fully armoured figure of your mysterious patron, urging you onwards. Relaxing again, you took in the reaction of your comrades - a rag tag band of adventurers like yourself. What had whatshisname said the place was? Some kind of Goblin infested Dwarven underway? Ah well - as long as there was gold as well as Goblins.

Focusing again on the mission at hand, you crept slowly forward.

Rules will be either 2nd or 3rd edition, depending on if I can become familiar with the new rules in time!

Trouble at t’Mill [top]
GM: Tim Eccles

Co-equality Peer-Steward Weendiemyllr has a problem. Consolidated Mills Combine Tuk and Dwe have both failed to produce their allocated quotas. But to admit so would find him guilty of spreading anti-propaganda. Longbearded Hero of the Workforce Stakhanozh has failed to attend two meetings of the Milling Kommittee in which he might explain this anomaly. By not declaring him guilty of economic sabotage, Weendiemyllr has now lain himself open to charges of being an Enemy of the Karak-tive. But as Stakhanozh is a favourite of Loremaster Gramzkhi what else could he do? Finally, there are also rumours of strange behaviour amongst separate-but-equal Hobgoblin co-voluntary workers. The last thing he needs is the Un-Dwarfen Activities Kommittee sticking their beards into his business.

What Weendiemyllr needs is someone to find out what is going wrong and resolve it. Or, at least, take the blame. And he is sure that he can find just such troubleshooters in a section of his Territorial Volunteers.

The game will be using first edition and is a homage to Paranoia using Chaos Dwarfs (with apologies to all those serious interpretations of CDs out there!).

Mirages Shimmering Through the Heat [top]
GM: Dark Knight

A caravanserie outside the walls of Istrabul.
A collocation of fugitives fleeing from their own pasts.
A missing princess and offers of a reward.
A robed stranger with an ancient map.
The lost treasure of the Pharoah Urokemsefuka.
A band of Ghilman from the Caliphate of Mahabbah.
A journey into the depths of the Sahra Desert.

Surely, these events must all be connected in Ormazd's great tapestry, and to ignore them would be to deny one's own fate.

First edition rules, with some houserules.

Lustria! [top]
GM: Daniel Gooch

Amongst the choking vines of the sweltering Lustrian jungle, brave adventurers risk all in their search for ancient treasures.

Filth [top]
GM: Rob Rees

Oh, the grand old Count of Badbad, he didn't fear no marshes
He had 600 men, well-drilled, bold and brave
His horses they got stuck, amongst the trolls of the marshes
They gobbled him, and his men, what a silly old knave!

After a disastrous military expedition kills a Count and the majority of his soldiers, a group of leading townsmen need to hold the fort in a city seething with revolution so that the unpopular new noblewoman can claim her distant inheritance.

Will be played using the Hot War rules and will be improvised narrative story-telling with an explicit PvP element between the townsmen.
