Cthulhu Scenario Change

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we are going to have to change one of the Cthulhu scenarios for Shadow Con. We will now NOT be running The Badari Serekh (Saturday & Sunday PM) and intend to run The Proposition in its place (which was run at Conception 2009 & 2010). If you have already played The Proposition, please let us know, since there are a number of other scenarios that can be run instead.

The Proposition:
Sometimes you don’t have a choice. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do: it’s not about who’s right, it’s not about what’s right, it’s just about what you have to do. Salvaging some sense of order for your life is all you can think about right now. Those you love are counting on you. This may be the strangest bunch of people you’ve ever got together with, but you’re all in this together, and that makes you powerful allies. You may not have a choice in what you are about to do, but you will be one of the few that determines how it all ends.

1880 Cthulhu scenario, 4 - 6 Investigators required: pre-gen characters supplied.

(All levels of Cthulhu experience welcome, including none!)

Please Note that this game is for Mature minded gamers only.

BBQ - Please be aware that you will need to pre-book for the BBQ on Saturday night, so that we know how many people to cater for.

ShadowCon are happy to announce that Leo Marshall, the inventor of LeGardo will be at demoing his game over the weekend.

LeCardo is a playing-card word game that works by adding words together to make compounds or other idiomatic matches such as housework, break-in, time off etc. It’s easy to pick up and play but be warned- it’s no pushover!

Whilst LeCardo doesn’t fall into the traditional spectrum of ‘hobby’ games, it nevertheless provides a fun diversion from longer games, and is not without strategic play.

We are pleased to be celebrating our third anniversary this year, having published in March 2007.

Come along and see a demo or, better still, challenge Leo Marshall, the inventor, to a game!

We are also happy to announce that that MMMGames will be attending on the Saturday. We have arranged with them, that people can pre-order stuff and they will bring it along with them to ShadowCon where you will pay for it.

To order stuff from MMMGames please contact them at enquiries@mmmgames.co.uk and put ShadowCon in the subject heading or click on the link below.

Also please note that there is a preorder cut off date of 21st May 2010 for all orders to ensure they can place orders in time for ShadowCon.

Each day will run from 9.00am to 8.00pm, with a morning and afternoon slot and an hour break for lunch. There will be a tuck shop on site selling 'convention standard' fare such as crisps, chocolate and soft drinks. There will be a BBQ on Saturday evening.

Ticket prices are £3 per game and payable by Cash or Cheque. Payment in advance is appreciated.

To book your game(s) please contact the relevant person. All RPG games have to be pre-booked and your booking will be on a first come first served basis.

Warhammer (WFRP)
Saturday AM & PM (2 & 2 Games):
Sunday AM & PM (2 & 2 Games):
NOTE – ALL Warhammer games are to be BOOKED through Tim

UPDATE - Warhammer is now FULL.

Saturday AM (2 Games): [top]

NOTE: WFRP Games will start at 10am and run until 2pm.

Where does the money go?
GM: Steven Hanlon
Players: Simon Crowe, Daniel Gooch, Dark Knight, Fred Mari, Rich Pingree, Jake Staves

It's the end of the week and the clerks of Dagmar's Goldsmith's were looking forward to a well-earned rest. But the day's count has come up short. There's a lot of money missing and Old Snufflenose is a famously unforgiving boss. If you can't get that cash back the best you can hope for is to lose your job. (In this economy, too!) The worst? Best not to think about it...

To get missing loot back you'll need to run around the city, suffer unfortunate misunderstandings and maybe do a little cross-dressing, Good luck, and have a fun weekend!

House of the Setting Sun
GM: Rolph Segers
Players: Jo Bain, Tim Eccles, Toby Pilling, Michael Quigley, Rob Rees, Gav Taylor

"So... you want to become a member of our illustrious guild of silver hands, quick blades, cats, sewer duckers, shadows, lighters, collectors, oilers, squeezers and whatnot...."

The Man stares down at you for a while.

"...to say the least, its a wise move to come to the clan of the Setting Sun, for we are -praise Ranald for letting it be so- the biggest, strongest and most influential affiliation in town. However, as you can certainly understand membership comes with a price. But before we delve into that part of our business I would first like to see some of your skill and character. As you can understand we have a high standard to keep up..."

you hear someone chuckle in the back

"...so we can't just privilege anyone with access to our enlightened society. We prefer a... erm... inauguration so to say, first. Though I doubt that such a trifle should deter such determined... stallions like you"

open laughter from the back. The man looks up from you which is followed by an eerie silence. He looks down again and continues,

"One of my more...alluring associates has recently encountered a quite interesting individual, a Rudolf Stein, an alchemist or 'scientist' as he calls himself. While she provided her services, the man became quite talkative and at one point mentioned an invention of his that can see and hear through walls... now you can imagine that this can be quite a valuable asset in the right hands... our hands.... He has a mansion just out of town 'Rosenrot' and rumour has come to my attention that he just left for a couple of days for some research. I say this is an ideal opportunity for you to gain the support of our illuminate alliance!"

Saturday PM (2 Games): [top]

NOTE: WFRP Games will start at 3pm and run until 7pm.

Death Beneath the Aurora Chaoticus
GM: Daniel Gooch
Players: Jo Bain, Simon Crowe, Tim Eccles, Steven Hanlon, Michael Quigley, Rolph Segers

In the frozen lands of Norsca, transformation of the Jarl's daughter into an ice troll leads the party on a grim and perilous quest to find a cure, adventuring through the brutal and savage icy wastes, battling beasts most foul and facing vile sorcery.

The Skjaldborg
GM: Toby Pilling
Players: Dark Knight, Fred Mari, Rich Pingree, Rob Rees, Jake Staves, Gav Taylor

"As the steel of a blade is tested by the smith, so amongst the Norsemen does a Jarl test the mettle of his Bondi in the Skjaldborg - the shieldwall."
- Xavier Pfaff, Middenheim Historian

Join the Old World's fiercest warriors as they gather in their Jarl's hall for a week of celebrations. There will be feasting and drinking aplenty, and the Skalds should have good verses to recite - they will if they hope to catch the Jarl's ear with their kennings, for he is renowned as a generous ring-giver. The Bondsmen and Drengir are bound to have tales to tell and loud boasts to make, and there may even be feats of arms to witness. For those who possess woman-luck (though whether luck is counted a more fortunate boon to a Norscan), there shall be opportunity to indulge that appetite also - either amongst the strong, proud local maidens; else with a pretty thrall.

The celebrations will end, as ever, with the sacrifice to hold off Fimbulwinter. It promises to be a week to remember!

Sunday AM (2 Games): [top]

NOTE: WFRP Games will start at 10am and run until 2pm.

The Heart of the Matter
GM: Dark Knight
Players: Tim Eccles, Steven Hanlon, Fred Mari, Rich Pingree, Rolph Segers, Gav Taylor

Zlatan Dogskull is dead, slain by the poxes of Semyon Twistwater after a minor skirmish deep in the Forest of Shadows. You have travelled many days to reach the Herdstone, so that your warband can erect a suitable Monolith of iron and thorns in his honour.

Apparently awaiting you at the Herdstone is a Chaos Warrior, claiming to have been sent here by a vision. You have had to put aside the quandary of what to do with this fellow traveller on the paths of Chaos, whilst you set about the more important task of politicking to decide which of you will have the honour of eating the heart of Zlatan, and taking his place as leader of the warband.

The time for the ceremony is drawing near, as the Brays continue their construction. Whichever of you becomes Champion is sure to grow great in the favour of the Ruinous Powers.

To Recover What Was Lost
GM: Rob Rees
Players: Jo Bain, Simon Crowe, Daniel Gooch, Toby Pilling, Michael Quigley, Jake Staves

The small town of Risse was the site of a great victory of the daemon of Chaos known as Grith the Tormented. A heroic warrior sacrificed his life to kill the creature and send it back into the warp. A massive cloud of disease rolled out of the daemons corpse and covered Risse and the land around it. The whole area had to be sealed off to contain the putrescence inside.

The young and arrogant nobleman, Duke Wurstrolle, feudal lord of Risse has conceived a plan to re-enter Risse and discover what has happened to his inheritance. He's looking for brave souls willing to risk life and limb for the sake of gold. His close advisor, the Dwarven engineer, Rigtock needs help with some experimental devices and you for your own reasons are volunteering to help.

Sunday PM (2 Games): [top]

NOTE: WFRP Games will start at 3pm and run until 7pm.

Saints Are Bastards too!
GM: Frederic Mari
Players: Jo Bain, Tim Eccles, Toby Pilling, Rich Pingree, Michael Quigley, Gav Taylor

While on the road, running an errand, you stumble upon the site of an ambush. Everyone's dead.

Everyone? No! A poor man with his face burned beyond belief is still alive! Shallya, Sigmar and all the Gods must have been watching over him... His survival is a miracle.

And, if his tongue hadn't been burned off, maybe he could have said what he saw...

A very upset Baron (yep, that one from before!) wants you to find out what this was all about. And there's a Sigmarite monastery not too far away, dedicated to Saint Madron, who has been known in helping with burns.

But, of course, there's more to this than meet the eye. Why is this so important? And why are two members of the Inquisitio Sancta Ecclesiae Sigmaris - the Dogs of Sigmar... sniffing around?

The Shab-al-Hiri Roach comes to The Empire
GM: Steven Hanlon
Players: Simon Crowe, Daniel Gooch, Dark Knight, Rob Rees, Rolph Segers, Jake Staves

A small and lonely college on the desolate northern coast of The Empire. Jealousy, bitterness, ambition. A dangerous creature brought back from Araby by a foolish researcher. One burning question: would you be willing to consume an ancient psychic cockroach? Even if it would get you tenure?

Join me for a GM-less game of academic rivalry and self-destructive mayhem, using The Shab-al-Hiri Roach indy game, adapted to the Old World.

Egypt 1936 - a lone survivor of the Harrington-Falken international archaeological expedition staggers out of the desert, telling a tale of treachery, madness and murder. As the unconscious American lies in his sick-bed, international tensions rise, with each country blaming the other for the disappearance of their 'best and brightest'. Angry telegrams fly between London and Paris, the Italian fleet sorties, steaming at full speed for Alexandria, and Zeppelins are dispatched from their base at Wilhelmshaven. The players are cast into this diplomatic maelstrom, on a mission of mercy. Can they discover the fate of Penny Harrington? Will they fall prey to the secret that tore apart the previous expedition?

What really lies under the desert sands? Is it worth killing for? Or dying for ...?

The Badari Serekh (GM Max)

You hoped you’d never see or hear of that damned book ever again. But deep down you know there is only you, you and those that faced the evil and fear with you when you first found it. You are the only ones really equipped to deal with the terror the book brings. It will doubtless be a test that will finally break some of you, but you know the world cannot suffer the consequences of the book falling in to the wrong hands.

There's a storm front coming in, so you'll have to be quick, but for old Antarctic hands like yourselves, that shouldn't be a problem.

After all, what could go wrong, thousands of miles from civilisation, in sub-zero temperatures with five other people you've hardly met in an aircraft barely able to make it there and back? Piece of cake....

Ice Station Tsathoggua is a Moden Cthulhu scenario for 6 players.  Pre generated characters supplied.
