We are very happy to announce that Shadow Warriors 20th Anniversary Celebration, Shadow Con, held over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th September at the Northfields Community Centre was a great success!! During the two days over 80 people came through our doors.
Our HeroClix event, with two tournaments held on the Sunday brought in twenty-odd players, to battle for some fantastic prizes kindly provided by WizKids/Topps.
Our two games of Cthulhu were also very popular and again we were able to hand out prizes, kindly provided by Chaosium, for the most spectacular deaths.
As for our other role-playing events, Living Greyhawk and Warhammer (WFRP) both were very well attended. Living Greyhawk brought in over twenty players on the Saturday and Sundays Warhammer was fully sold out! The three participation War Games run by Heston Hobbies on the Saturday, attracted a lot interested and everyone that played the games commented on how easy and fun they were to play.
The general feedback was that everyone had a good time and enjoyed the various games they took part in.
There is a feedback questionnaire so that those people who attended Shadow Con but didn't get a chance to fill it out can let us know their thoughts. This will be especially useful if we run another Shadow Con, to enable us to make it even better then this year's.
We would like to thank everyone that attended Shadow Con and helped us celebrate 20 years of gaming, especially WizKids/Topps and Chaosium for their prize support.

Congratulations to Rob Buckley for winning both the Summer Daze and Autumn Knights events and Martin Griggs and Rob Edwards for well deserved fellowships.

Prizes were handed out for the most spectacular character death!!
Terror in Transylvania
As there were 5 character deaths during the
scenario and the last surviving character was last seen fleeing into the
darkness of the Transylvanian mountains while surrounded by ghouls, there was
some competition for this prize!
The prize eventually went to the professor, who tried to save himself from being crushed by a falling monolith by hiding under a medieval shield he had found. Perhaps I should mention that the monolith was toppled by one the PCs placing explosives around it during the final encounter.
Honourable mention should go to the Para captain who bravely saved the rest of the party by falling onto a grenade with his dying breath, and kudos go to the Doctor, who managed to take another member of the party with him when the dynamite he was carrying went up - again caused by the explosives round the monolith!
Horror at Fang Rock
(Un?)Fortunately, there was only 1 PC death in
this game, but it was a doozy. After a 4-way Mexican stand-off at the top of the
lighthouse, with the PCs pointing pistols of various calibres at each other and
threatening to kill the next person who moved (all while a hundred deep ones
were trying to batter their way in at the bottom of the lighthouse), the
appearance of the Mi-Go finally sent the Russian Revolutionary over the edge of
sanity.
With a mighty shout, the South African Big game hunter tried to wrestle the gun from the mad Russian. Unfortunately, the railing gave way, and despite a valiant attempt to drag the hunter with him, the Russian alone fell to his death on the rocks below. I don't know about you, but it's the first time I've had a PC die by falling off a lighthouse!
Clive Oldfield ran a game in which a witch-hunter (long flowing scarf, wide-brimmed hat) and a shaman warrior woman (named Leela) turned up in town. The game started with the PCs in a council meeting, working their way through an agenda. He described it as “one of the most enjoyable I've ever GMed”. No one knew what was going on, the Doctor Who bit was unfathomable and obscure (why use Terileptils and Sontarans when you can use Daleks and Cybermen?) and it finished with only the 'Present' bit being solved; completely missing the 'Past' and 'Future' sections but none of that mattered. The council meeting was brilliant. Only the lord of the manor seemed to have any interest in looking after the townsfolk, everyone else was out for fleecing them for whatever they could get, which is some sort of vindication for the feudal system, I think. Highlights included burning the TARDIS at the stake for witchcraft, killing the subject of a delicate medical operation beforehand, to save time, covering up the entrance to the 'dungeon' and hoping no-one noticed. And, just generally loads of hilarious in-character banter.
Tim Eccles’ game involved industrialisation versus tradition and religion as a backdrop, set in a town whose primary business was the export of salt. A holy site to the Cult of Shallya, and a source of income to both the townspeople (legally) and the Cult of Ulric (illegally) was the background for politicking, murder and general mayhem. Other events included a colour-blind PC who was the first to resolve the riddle of a manuscript in over 1,000 years, a religious relic the players wanted to ‘borrow’, a second relic that happened to be a magical sword with personality to match, missing gnomes that everyone denied had ever existed, a bunch of polite beastmen with bits of ‘pottery’ stuffed into their skulls, and some rather odd machines all rounded out an adventure that left everyone scratching their heads. Oh, and did we mention the players upsetting half the town?
